“Mr. King was knowledgeable, caring and patient in helping me to choose a hearing aid. Nelda also stepped in to help and really knew what she was doing. It was a rewarding experience and I would recommend King hearing to any one.”
Mary W., Patient
Randall King, BC-HIS
I was born in Lubbock, Texas and part of a family of four generations that farmed. My father, an entomologist, began working for agricultural chemical companies when I was five and we moved several times. I grew up in Texas, Mississippi, Connecticut, North Carolina, and finally back to Lubbock when I was sixteen. Although moving was difficult, I gained a perspective about our country and people that I would not trade for anything. Even today, I try to have an open attitude and an understanding of the process that an individual must go through in order to accept change. My mom was a speech pathologist and practiced at Methodist Hospital and in private practice. She has given me a lot of great advice working with people who have health issues and has always supported me in the hearing business.
In 1976 we moved back to Lubbock and I graduated from Coronado High School. I married Kris (Howsley) King, my high school sweetheart and we have raised three great kids, Jennifer, Jason, and Jordan (all went to Monterey High School). I graduated from Texas Tech University in 1982 and began testing hearing and fitting hearing aids in 1986. At that time fitting hearing aids was different than today. I travelled the Lubbock region visiting with people at senior centers and in their homes, cleaning and repairing broken hearing aids, encouraging everyone to have their hearing tested, and fitting new hearing aids. Now, I am an independent dispenser, fitting Oticon, Phonak, ReSound, Starkey, and several other brands. This allows me to choose the best technology for each individual’s hearing loss, at a reasonable price. It has been rewarding to help people to hear again and satisfying to see the benefits to those struggling to hear.
I see my patients at King Hearing Center in the Lubbock office at 2821 74th Street. We have advanced test equipment and a quiet sound booth to test more accurately. Nelda, my office coordinator helps with general hearing aid cleaning and adjustments, scheduling and keeping track of everything. I am able to spend time with each person and help them to understand their hearing loss, the best hearing aid for them, the proper use and cleaning of their hearing aids, and the importance of being able to hear more clearly and comfortably. The true value of hearing aids is only achieved by working closely with a professional who cares about you and what you are experiencing.
As a Board Certified Hearing Instrument Specialist with twenty-nine years of fitting experience, I am dedicated to helping people to hear and understand using the best technology at the best price.
Nelda Salazar, Office Coordinator
Nelda is our office coordinator, and she has had an interesting career. She graduated from high school in Edcouch, Texas and attended Texas Tech for two years when family obligations moved her into the work world. She worked as a Deputy Clerk in the Lubbock Courthouse for several years and as a Nurses Aid for a couple of years. Her real talents became clear when she worked for a large commercial real estate developer as an executive secretary, organizing the office and working with clients. But it is our blessing that Nelda came to King Hearing Center in 2003 and put her organizational and people skills to work. Nelda was the oldest of five kids and helped her mother raise the family after her father passed away. She is patient and compassionate and helps to care for each patient as they adjust to using hearing aids. (Nelda also speaks Spanish fluently)
